The new album, to be released in a few weeks, has the title “White Lies”. This is Vitor Cunha’s fourth full length album and his third released since 2008. It features 9 stunning new songs, written during a particular emotional period following the passing of his father.

What a great show!

The show was great. It’s been a while since the band played this venue (actually, it was exactly one year ago) but everything went smoothly and the audience participation was simply amazing. The songs themselves are more than partially responsible for such an overwhelming response – it takes more than a few chops to write such amazing stuff. Nevertheless, the band was on fire and played like there’s no tomorrow. More pictures (maybe videos too) will be posted briefly.

Big Problem plays Rui Veloso – Week 2

It’s done. Rehearsals are finished and the setlist is complete. It’s going to be a fun night, we hope.
The hall itself is notorious for the boomy characteristics. My aim is for the band to play softly as it serves the room, the patrons and the songs better. I don’t have a smaller drum kit available otherwise I would suggest it.
So, next Saturday at 22h15 we will be hitting the stage and hopefully, should it go smoothly, we may consider a little local touring with this show.

Big Problem plays Rui Veloso – Week 1

The band will be playing an one-off gig in Gondomar, Portugal. The lads decided that we could play a series of tribute-like shows in which, instead of playing a varied setlist, we would focus in playing works from a single artist. We are not using a real setlist as a reference, instead we are handpicking what we feel that are representative songs in a coherent setlist. So far, we only scheduled one show but we are yet to define if we tour a little with it or if we keep scheduling different one-offs with different artists.

For the March 27th gig, we are playing a Rui Veloso set. Rui is the most influential artist to arise in the early 80s in Portugal. He’s also my favorite. I’m sure Big Problem will accordingly butcher some of the most beautiful and memorable songs ever written.

I won’t go into details of the setlist but, if you know Rui’s work, you might guess 4 or 5 major hits that will, most certainly, be played.

I’m considering a smaller rig for this gig – it’s a real pain carrying busloads of guitars and heavy amplifiers. I’m pretty sure no more than 3 guitars will be involved.

Big Problem gig

Big Problem, the band featuring Vitor on guitars is playing in Gondomar, the 27th March, at the GFSCG. It’s a special gig in which the band will perform a setlist comprised of Rui Veloso songs.
Here’s a map in case you’re in the neighborhood.
Big Problem are Nuno Guimarães – Guitar and vocals, Vitor Cunha – Guitar, Ricardo Guimarães – Bass, Abílio Rocha – Keyboards and Jorge Rocha – Drums.

This one’s for gearheads. These are the guitars being used on the latest album. It’s a strange brew of high and low tech instruments, some stock, some upgraded. I’ll post a list of instruments for each track when the album is out.

Would you like a description of these guitars in future posts? I’m also considering recording a short video with each of these guitars for you to get to know them better. Let me know if you’d like that.
